Who we are
Origin Story
The Phalanx Group was founded by Josh Stanley, a medically retired Marine Corps Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) technician and Chemical Biological Radiological & Nuclear Defense (CBRN) Specialist with nearly two decades of experience across consequence management, Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD), and real-world operational response.
Josh began his career as a CBRN reconnaissance, detection/identification and mobile laboratory scientist at the Marine Corp’s Chemical Biological Incident Response Force (CBIRF). He later transitioned into EOD and technical escort roles supporting high-risk missions both deployed and stateside.
Following military service, he continued operating in the CBRNe space working in military acquisition and technical sales, bridging the gap between operational end users, emerging technologies, and procurement realities. He has additionally served as a Director within the Washington, DC–based CBRNe industry group, providing strategic insight into national capability gaps, technology adoption, and training needs across government and industry.
Josh is currently an active federal contractor and instructor within DoD, with an active security clearance.
Why Phalanx Exists
The Phalanx Group exists because too many CBRNe capabilities fail where it matters most — in real-world operations.
Across military, public safety, and critical infrastructure environments, responders are often asked to rely on training that doesn’t reflect reality, technology that wasn’t designed for operators under stress, and guidance disconnected from how incidents actually unfold. These gaps create hesitation, misuse, and failure at moments when clarity and confidence are critical.
Phalanx was created to close that gap. We exist to bring operational realism, hard-earned experience, and disciplined evaluation back to the center of CBRNe preparedness — ensuring that people, procedures, and technology work together when conditions are uncertain and consequences are high.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to strengthen CBRNe readiness by delivering operator-driven training, consulting, and capability development that is realistic, defensible, and field-ready.
Phalanx supports those who protect others by translating complex threats into clear decisions, aligning technology with real operational workflows, and helping organizations build capabilities that stand up to evaluation and perform under pressure. We measure success not by compliance alone, but by confidence, usability, and trust in the field.
